DRIVING GROWTH 2017

Change is the central force of the marketplace. Look around, change is coming at you from all directions and in all manners: rise of organizations targeting a variety of “niche” markets (e.g., via personalized nutrition) vs. targeting the mass market, proliferation of small premium brands, tech industry investing in food and beverage, the blurring of food retailing channels, organic and natural food and beverage on the uptick vs. lackluster performance of conventional food and beverage counterparts, diversification of procurement options (e.g., fresh format brick and mortar stores, downsizing the retail footprint, meal kit delivery, home delivery, subscriptions), and consumers’ ever-evolving lifestyles, preferences and aspirations. We could go on, but you get the picture.

We should embrace change, not run from it. Why? Because change in the marketplace is consumer-driven. Change represents possibilities. We’re living in a time of rapid change, and with our deep understanding of consumers and the marketplace, The Hartman Group recognizes there are many possible paths to growth.

While there are many paths to growth (e.g., renovation, innovation, acquisition) we will identify the key pillars of premium benefits that consumers are seeking and that are driving growth opportunities in the marketplace today. These pillars can help drive growth via:

  • Informing market structures (segmenting category revenue)
  • Explaining the “why” behind premium growth attributes in the marketplace today
  • Guiding innovation platform development
  • Prioritizing M&A prospects to acquire/invest in

These growth drivers all ladder up to fulfilling on consumers’ increasingly fragmented and specialized needs that cohere around The Hartman Group’s four main premium benefits pillars:

  • Customized health and wellness
  • Nutrient density
  • Performance (optimization)
  • Pleasure
